Dear Helmut and All, Do you want it to be 'Oh Canada' or 'O Canada'? My guess is that every flower has a different pattern, is that right? Your first attempt was certainly a successful one. Wish you many more successes. Looks like Peonies are at their peak for you. Our season is drawing to a close, as 'Raspberry Sundae' drops its petals in our droughty but not too hot weather, despite my frequent hosings. Best, Don |

You have sent in your registration to APS I hope? When will you be marketing this beauty? Soon I hope. What was the breeding of OH CANADA? Pollen & pod parents I am curious as to where the stripes came from. Alana PS.: I forgot to ask the leaves appear to have a lighter edge with the underside of the leaves the same light color. Am I truely seeing the edge in the picture or am I just seeing the underside? |

You get an entry in my database. I had a striped seedling too this year, in fact it was the second year it flowered for me. pictures can be viewed on http://www.paeo.de/f05/06b/html/20050604/lac_mong2_2.html use the navigation to see more pictures. The seedling came from Canada, from Whiteman Alpines, and it is a collection of Josef Halda from Mongolia. Maybe more people in Canada have seedlings from this collection. I have 3 surviving plants, which flowered this year, out of six seedlings. Are there more striped mongolians among them?? |

Wow!!!! How did you do it? |

Hello Everybody, Thank you for all the nice comments. I can say that this peony is a single herbaceous that is very hardy...it has survived two winters with minimum temps of -42*C. It flowered for the first time last year and yes the color pattern is stable. Also it is fertile and produces seeds. I looked at the seeds from last year and they are starting to appear above ground. It is not a mongolian seedling from Whiteman alpines. I have not divided the plant yet. Its value for me is in the breeding potential. Since the color pattern is stable, I will try to get the colors into other flower forms such as double bomb type or semi double. Also a dark purple streaked with white would be striking. Perhaps even a striped yellow and white in double bomb form. The potential possibilities are exciting. Helmut |
