A cross I've found rewarding is potanini x moutan. Without any undue effort several years ago the cross potanini trollioides x an unregistered seedling and also by Godiachu yielded viable seed. The second year bloom from one of these seedlings is an appealing bright pink, multipetaled, four inches in diameter when fully opened. There are presently seven closely clustered stalks from the ground. If it were to exhibit the stoloniferous habit of its wide-spreading seed parent it would be especially interesting in the landscape. Time will tell. At present I've assigned the garden name Small Wonder. |
